Violet Dining Room

This transitional violet and grey dining room is sophisticated, bright, and airy! The room features a geometric, violet wallpaper paired with neutral, transitional furnishings. A round heather grey dining table and neutral, upholstered armchairs provide the perfect intimate setting. An unexpected modern chandelier is the finishing touch to this space.

Project Overview:

This dining room was part of a full home makeover. The client has lived in their home for 12 years and was ready for an update. Our client was debating to either move or update their home. They loved their home and the layout but not how it looked. When we had our first design meeting with them, they knew from our 3-D pictures that they were going to fall in love with their home again and they did!

Violet Dining Room

Our first step for all the rooms, was to choose what colors to use. The color schemes that we decided to that would set the entire tone for the home was blue/green, violet and white. We also wanted to use silver as our metal hue just because they could not dream of even going back to gold.

Dining Room Solutions

The dining room was a pivotal point that would really set the tone of the home. Besides the foyer, it was the first room that you would see when you came in the home. The original walls were a deep brown with a glaze and texture. All the trim in the home was also an ivory tone that would just be too yellow. I knew from the beginning that I wanted to introduce wallpaper and wanted the dining room to be violet. We were also changing our furniture to a more transitional feel to make everything feel clean and not bulky.

The room was almost square so a round table would be perfect for entertaining and give a more intimate feel. The deeper violet and silver geometric design in the wallpaper would be perfect. All the furniture was a lighter wood tone and fabric to contrast with the richness of the wallpaper. We did not need a full buffet for storage but wanted a piece to be used for serving. The console needed to be narrow due to the larger round table and the size of the room. We also loved the deep tone gray console which was narrow at 12″. It was perfect for drinks.

The chandelier was an unexpected modern crystal tubes and silver metal elements. We pulled everything together with a round traditional rug in light neutral colors. We kept the window treatments in a light tone linen with a Greek key banding to add sophistication. Another product that our client found unexpected were the faux iron pieces that were custom designed for the small square upper windows. While most would have done a top treatment, we decided to do a sculptural element that would blend beautifully with the wallpaper design.

We finished off the room with beautiful artwork in neutral tones and silver frames. With the wallpaper being the main color design of the room, we did not want the artwork to detract from that. We completed with simple silver candlesticks on the table, florals on the console with gorgeous drinkware. This room is open and airy; one that you could sit in for hours after dinner chatting with friends and family!
