6 Interior Design Trends to Keep an Eye on in 2021

There’s never a bad time to update your interior design and with 2020 in the rearview mirror, now is the perfect time to swap out some old materials for new, fresh looks. So, if you’re thinking about completing an interior renovation this year, let’s take a look at a few trends to keep an eye on.

1 Hardwood Flooring

The term “hardwood flooring” encompasses many hardwood floor trends and could refer to 100% premium hardwood flooring, engineered hardwood flooring, or even hardwood veneer.

Grey reclaimed hardwood flooring is one option if you’re going for a homey, rustic vibe with 100% hardwood floors.

You could also opt for engineered hardwood floors if you want a more eco-friendly material. Vinyl hardwood veneer is another choice that works especially well for homeowners who don’t want the maintenance and water damage concerns associated with real wood.

2 Accent Walls

Accent walls are another popular interior trend in 2021, so you’d better learn how to hang wallpaper if you don’t already know. Of course, an accent wall can be designed with anything from patterned wallpaper, to stone veneer or shiplap planks.

There are plenty of shiplap wall ideas, in particular, to choose from including all-white shiplap planks, rustic wooden shiplap planks that resemble the aesthetic of an old wooden boat, color contrasting planks, and many more.

Another idea for an accent wall is to fill it with greenery. Not only will it improve your air quality, but it also creates a unique atmosphere in any home that can help break up monotonous color schemes.

3 Furniture with Texture

Furniture has seen a turn towards texture, as smooth, seamless surfaces on furniture are replaced by items with grooves, twists, and increased depth. The detail found in so many different tables, drawers, and shelves right now is a far cry from the unimpressive tactile banality of yesterday’s furniture.

4 Earthy Tones

Earthy tones are in style right now so you’d do well to implement them wherever possible in your home. Stonewashed linen, oatmeal, canvas, flesh, hemp, wood, earthy jute, and wool are among a few of our favorites. Taupe and its many variations will also work here. Not only does this trend apply to the color of your walls and/or furniture, but you can also help bolster the earthy aesthetic with chairs, cushions, rugs, or even a staircase

5 Natural Materials

Synthetic materials are on the way out as we make room for natural fabrics like wool, linens, timbers, sisals, and rattan. By making use of natural fabrics inside your home you can help bolster your feeling of connection to nature, a connection that you may feel fading as the Covid-19 pandemic continues. Fabrics like these are also highly recyclable and eco-friendly, which is always a plus.

6 Textured Wall Design

Texture is hot right now, so much so that it’s even popular on our walls themselves. Textured wallpaper is seeing proliferate use inside homes across the country. Adding texture to your walls doesn’t have to mean a whole new wallpaper job, though. Some homeowners are using wall rugs as an opportunity to introduce some texture to their walls, and with great success.

Spruce up your interior in 2021 with these Hot Trends

It’s not hard to shake things up when it comes to interior design in 2021.
